About the Irish Institute of Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IICAPP)

IICAPP oversees the two-year Professional training programme. Throughout years three and four the course provides a continuation of academic and clinical training for those students who have completed the MSc in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, Trinity College, Dublin.

The clinical training programme is a two year part-time programme. Teaching will take place in modules starting in September 2019. There may be additional teaching pre-organised outside the scheduled training days to support the clinical programme and to facilitate guest lecturers.

Students continue their personal therapy and supervision throughout the two year programme.

The course will be overseen by an IICAPP professional Training Committee, made up of clinical practitioners, with academic links to Trinity College. The committee have a responsibility for organising the programme to ensure the maintenance of standards and the monitoring of the clinical case work and assessment of students.
On successful completion of their clinical training, students will be awarded a clinical diploma by IICAPP. They will then be eligible to apply for accreditation by the Irish Forum for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (IFCAPP). Accreditation by this body allows the students to be recognised by the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) which in turn is aligned with the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP). Accreditation also allows the students to commence work practicing as a psychotherapist.
